It's been challenging because I'm an older worker, and I am frequently not even considered once the resume readers realize I remember Richard Nixon. A few years ago, I went back to school to finish my degree, and that has helped tremendously because the resume readers see that I graduated in 2019 not 1978 when I first went to journalism school. Despite all efforts -- upgrading my education, getting a secret security clearance, and rehabilitating my credit destroyed by years of working for sketchy clients who I had to chase to get paid -- I couldn't get to third base with recruiters.
